There is this really awesome Fairfield, IA band called Rock, Paper Scissors. (They also have a MySpace.com page as well!)

They're a female trio that's jazzy/fusion/other with musical accompaniment.

Merle Fest 2009

Merle Fest is a music festival revolving around the concept of sharing music on all levels. Listening, performing, and exchanging information and ideas. I've never been to the music event and this will be a first for me.

I want to go but also want to keep the costs low, and so I started the volunteer ball rolling (you can find information on volunteering at the festival here). Now I guess the next step is seeing who I can convince to go with me (and quite possibly take off work to go as well).

It seems like it's going to be fun. Part of my motivation is a fav. band of mine is playing durring the weekend of this event. *smirk*

Hopefully I can get at least SOMEONE to go with me.

All You Need is Love(ll)

I love free concerts. Especially if the group(s) are in vein of my interests. Part of the reason I love the DC area, all the free stuff that goes on in and around a major metropolis city.

I recently had the pleasure of seeing The Lovell Sisters at a venue just outside of DC, free of charge (their MySpace page).

Quite frankly, I was highly impressed by their music and voices coming from 3 people so young! They play a blend of Folk Rock, Acoustic, and Country.

Music, Music, Music.

Sometimes, it amazes me how much my life revolves around music.

Let me rephrase that.

Sometimes, it amazes me how much I "discover" new music and/or musicians I've never even heard of.


(That's how I started this blog. I kept "discovering" all this music and sharing it with my musically inclined (and very talented) friend. She put it politely. Stop bugging her and write something about yourself).


What initially inspired this blog is from an e-mail sent out by a local performance space. It puts out what music shows it's putting on, as well as a couple of other performance places too.

On this particular e-mail, I "discovered" a band called She & Him (they have a MySpace page as well). They label themselves (according to MySpace), as Indie/Country/Pop. I would say they're more like a band you would go see on a cool summer's eve, with a picnic of watermelon, light refreshments (mint sun tea), sandwiches (like cheese, light mayo, lettuces, freshly sliced tomato, and maybe a dash of mustard), and someone who you wouldn't mind cuddling with.

They're for sure more than background music.

I believe I've seen the girl singing before on TV. She looks like that girl from "Gilmore Girls", you know - the daughter Alexis Bledel. Wait! I've seen the girl before. Her name is Zooey Deschanel. She was the girl in "Elf" and the Sci-Fi channel's "Tin Man". The guy is M. Ward.

note: as I'm writing this I'm jumping around between pages doing a bit of research. I am known to know faces and not names. NOTORIOUS, actually. So bare in mind that this blog posting is more or less a cut and paste of names and mini facts.

May I suggest listening to Sentimental Heart. A good first song.


PS. A good friend of mine is in the musical Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat. I love that musical. I am sorely sad I am most likely not to see her in it. To boot, on a slight tangent, the Cowboy from The Village People, Randy Jones, is playing the Pharaoh. Ok, I may be jonesing a little about that a relatively well know person is coming to the town where I attended college (yes, pun intended).

Ok, there are a couple movies coming out (or already out) that I want to see.

Yes, they're all movies that I want to see in the theater. Most likely a matinee, but still in the theater. I think some people are more psyched to see The Dark Knight since Heath Ledger passed away. Just what I think, but it should still be a good movie.

Moving on. I was thinking today that bowling would be fun. There is a bowling place relatively close to my house, which is nice. BUT there is a game called Duckpin Bowling that's better than the cat's pajama's (close enough, anyway).

Duckpin Bowling is EXACTLY like bowling (roll the ball down the lane, knock over pins, all down on one ball = strike, 2 balls = spare, etc). The only difference is the balls are smaller (you hold them in your hand - no finger holds) and you get 3 tries to knock your pins over, not your typical 2.

SO much fun!

Ok, I heard this group the other night. And I know I've heard them before too. She kind of reminds me a little of Amy Winehouse with the vocals. Only a little.

Its very danceable and up beat. And something I feel good about "promoting" too.

Another artist/musician I've "recently" got into (well about a year ago recent) is Mika. Also good music and upbeat, fun stuff.

I will admit I do listen to this kind of stuff and even have cd's of similar music (no Duffy CD's at this time though). I have 2 Aqua cd's (you know, the people who did that Barbie Song???), Mika, Tom Jones, Spice Girls (their 2nd album - my uncle thought I'd like it, and I do), all 3 Shrek sound tracks, Moulin Rouge Sound Track...only to name a few. I like ABBA too, but no cd's yet.

Well, I should get to bed, esp. if I'm going to see John Edward tomorrow.

Songs + Music = Awesomeness!

I cant tell you how much I love Songza. It's great b/c I can listen to songs, for free, and I dont need to download anything.

When you get the search results for your song, and click on one you want to listen to, a symbol similar to the red baron's cross pops up. From there you can play the song, rate it, share it with friends, or one of their newer features, add that song to a play list!

Granted, you cant take it with you when you go out (unless you have one of those blackberry/iPhone things, but then if you have one of those, you would more likely have songs ON your phone and not streaming them from some internet site).

But it's really good when you're working on the computer, doing stuff, and dont feel like popping in a CD.

Ok. One of my really good friends started doing a radio show in her local town and ever since then, I've been keeping an eye out for women artists to bombard her with (she also does a blog about it too!).

Actually, more like since the one time she asked for input for one show when she was out of the country, but I still like to think I help in some way.


Well friend with her own radio show, I've got another one for you! Boo-ya!

Her name is Priscilla Ahn (she also has a MySpace page).

Soft sounds that one could say tickles the back of your mind, trying to remind you of an in between place of joy.

Her style is Indie / Folk.

So, that's that and again I'm up WAY too late. But I'm excited about a party I'm going to a week from this Saturday. And the fact that my kickball team won $100 tab for best costumes at our mid-season party. Granted we won by default - only team that bothered to do costumes (we wore outfits with a color of the rainbow). Simple but it got us $.
