County Fair 2009

It's that time of year, where the herald of county fairs appear on every babe's lips....

.......well, at least some of them.

This will be the third time I've entered in my county fair with knitted items (crocheted in the previous two). I've been lucky enough to have everything I've enter win some sort of ribbon (even if it's 6th place).

Also, it seems that every year what I enter gets smaller....either I'm knitting too much of the same or its collecting dust in a random corner.

I have one last item I "need" to finish to enter the fair this coming Friday.

Anyway. I had gotten some of the new Lion Brand Fishermen's Wool colors: Oatmeal, Maple Tweed (their Natures Brown with a thread of their Natural running through it), and Oak Tweed (their Natural with a thread of their Natures Brown running through it).

I am planning on making a couple Morgan's from Knitty's Fall 2008 online pattern collection - at least one in each color. I'm thinking x-mas gifts for the brothers and the dad.

That is all for now.

Winning Left and Right!

OK. August is when my local county has it's Ag. Fair and any county resident can enter stuff to try and win ribbons (and nominal amounts of $ - first place usually garners somewhere around $3-$5, well, the knitting & crocheting categories at least).

This year I've entered about 6 pieces into the county fair and all have won ribbons.

I made these pair of fingerless mittens in like a couple of days. I was highly impressed with my speedy efficiency.

I was so relieved when this scarf was finished! It seemed that it took FOREVER to finish but I was happy with the end result. I unraveled the edges for fringe and was tickled pink (ha ha) to see how well the fringe held up (and actually TWISTED) after a cycle in the washer and dryer. I don't have a pic with the fringe (finished the scarf just in time for the county fair) but these other photos give a good idea.

This is a had that I saw in the movie "Golden Compass" (the books are 1,000,000 better than the movie version - granted movies can not capture 100% of the book version, but you can get the essence of it and still maintain a reasonable stream of logic). But I liked the hat.

Cookie Monster Hat. I think this won 2nd place to a hat that had more color. Meh.

Last but not least, my glove hat. With this one b/c i had so many hats going into the county fair, I needed something to qualify it to go into another category. So, it's a had and fingerless glove set.

They all won ribbons (the pink scarf got first) and I'm glad that I have another year to make more stuff.

County Fair.

The county fair is coming up in roughly a months time. I have a couple thing to enter into the knitting section, but I would like to have some more things for it (greater chance of getting at least one ribbon from the fair).

Here's a pic of a scar I'm currently working on:

The foot in the picture is more so for reference of size.

You may see the cables better on this one:

The plain stitches are to be ripped upon finishing, leaving the cables in tact. What this does is gives the item fringe, with out worrying about saving enough yarn to do so. (You've incorporated the fringe into the amount you're using. Genius I say). I know when I finish the scarf I will not have to worry about getting more yarn, since the chances are the company discontinued this yarn (it was bought by my mom's parents for her, when Sears actually sold yarn).

I've also made a glove hat. Yes, a glove the size of a hat.

But I want to make gloves/mittens to go with this hat, so I can enter another hat into the fair (you can have no more ONE item entered in each category to be judged). I'll see if I can find the other hat to take a picture of for you.
